ORONO, Maine — About 85 companies, organizations and graduate school programs will court University of Maine students at the campus’s annual Career Fair from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 1, in the New Balance Student Recreation Center.

The event usually draws more than 1,000 students who peruse booths looking for internships, summer jobs or full-time positions, according to Patty Counihan, director of the UMaine Career Center.

The university recommends that students dress professionally and bring along portfolios and resumes to distribute to potential employers, Counihan said in a press release.

Most employers are Maine-based, but the fair also brings in companies from other states, as well as the federal government and national nonprofit agencies.

More information on the career fair, including a list of participating employers, may be found at The site includes tips and advice for how students can make a good first impression, according to Counihan.
