Surely, there must be something more interesting than this to write about.  Maybe a story about the last time the tide came in over the dike.

I guess Grady is at it again, and cannot lead his officers.

  • I’ve known Richard since we was in Kindergarten @ Columbia Falls Elementary (we were best friends growing up) & he has always been a little bit of a loose cannon at times BUT I’m on his side on this one..He’s a good person deep down & he’s standing up for himself for what he believes was wrong..Good luck Richard on this situation & hope for nothing but the best for you.

Does the town of Machias really need town cops????
Where is Glenn Wakefield when you need him?

Some people know it all. I’m sure the ones talking bad about  Richard Strout knows every detail that happened in all these incidents you speak of. Of course if it was you or your friends that were BREAKING THE LAW in the first place and was arrested of course your not going to like the guy.  Lets face it whether Machias or all of Washington County there are plenty of bad seeds that deserve to be arrested.  You blame this guy for actually doing his job and arresting people, instead of screwing off like some cops do. If the girl that got punched in the face or whatever by him wasn’t breaking the law and then tried to tackle him wouldn’t of been punched or arrested in the first place. What if one of those girls would have gotten a hold of his gun? Your a cop you need to protect yourself and your firearm.

As far as i am concerned more cops should be out there arresting people instead of sitting around waiting for a speeder to drive by.

When Richard Strout and Jake Scott were the Jonesport Police, i know together they did their job and did it well. With the presence of them in town, the young kids driving 40-50 through down came to a halt. They tried to do things in town for the teens, like wanting to establish a after school program, wanted to hold car audio events(as that was a big thing in the town back then) wanted to give ride along.  Those things never happened because of town officials. But they were trying.

Anytime i have ever met Richard he has been Courteous, and yes he has even given me a speeding ticket and guess what i was speeding and deserved it.

Don’t break the law if you don’t want the cops after you, and when there after you don’t try fighting them, because they will by any means necessary protect themselves an their weapons.

I  have no problem with Richard Strout doing his job. What I can say is I do have a problem with a cop who would lie just to pull someone over. Its real nice that you have no problem with a cop filing a false report. He should have been fired for that alone.I was an eye witness so dont tell me I dont know the facts.I would be glad to take a trip to the Machias PD to see if they still have the report if you would be interested in coming along.

Cops create their own reasons for pulling people over all the time, that is nothing knew. Good cop or bad cop they all do it. There is no 100% honest play by the books cop out there. Richard Strout or Chief Dwelley or Sheriff Smith i am sure have all cut corners at some points in their careers.

May i ask how you was an eye witness to him filing a false report? Was you with him, or the person the report was filed on or a passenger?

Probably just an issue with the site itself. I have had to submit my posts a few different times before they actually appeared on site.

I’m sure he did punch her, but im also pretty sure he wouldn’t just punch her for no reason. What was she doing that provoked the punching? Nothing at all i am sure. Your a lawyer its your job to defend your clients and im certain you have defended plenty you have known were guilty, just like any other lawyer.

As for the political sign incident, obviously another case of he said she said, do you believe the cop or do you believe the suspects who always say they didn’t do anything. How many people are in jail and prison right now saying they didn’t do what there serving time for??

Im sure once this cop pissed of the wrong person rumors spread and then people start bashing him and thinking they can not follow his orders as a police officer, because of his “reputation” whether true, false or in between.

There are two sides to every story.

Like i said earlier ive seen the good side of him, where he was a good cop and did his job, and tried to interact and involve the towns teenagers. But most people despise cops just because they are cops. Ive seen some cops that are complete pricks and probably are only cops because of the power associated with it. And cops who sit in town and talk with the local teenage girls.

Apparenty, Bangor Daily keeps deleted the facts I am telling you that are based upon sworn testimony in open court and Strout’s own police reports.  Way to go, BDN.  Maybe you should do some actual investigation and reporting on this and you can write the story.   If you want to see these facts for yourself, call my office and schedule an appointment.  I’ll get authorization from my clients to show you their files, or you could simply go to court and ask to listen to the recordings of these hearings.  I’ll tell you which ones to request.

        jeff,
you have totally proven me wrong ! i have always truely believed that all the police and most of the laywers & the system in this town were all alike. i have had family members actually suffer at the hands of this guy. you have no idea how much i want strout completely terminated from ever harming anyone again. thank-you for everything you are doing. its worth every penny.

        • Guest

What was your family members doing to get in an incident with him in the first place, im sure they weren’t breaking the law now were they.

          • Anonymous

like i said before with strout u dont have to break the law he does what he wants and asked questions later

          • Guest

Like i said before, those that break the law always deny doing something wrong in the first place. No one in your family would ever be caught doing something wrong would they???

          • Anonymous

actually they were not. but just as you stated in your very first comment everyone thinks they know everything. so y dont you take the invitation that was given to you and hear the tapes for yourself and save your self some typing.

You are right, too many people have suffered because of this kid.I still blame the town of Machias for alot of it.They had chances to fire him but let him continue in his ways and now look at what its gonna cost them.

I wonder if the citizens of Washington County were well served by Officer Strout the night he refused to help search for that man that walked out of DECH in a blizzard?

  • Anonymous

maybe there are paople out there that think strout is a “goodcop” but under the whole frredom of speech i will tell everyone he i believe he is def. not police material…i had an incident with him in 2007 after returning home from surgery in bangor and had my 2 young boys and my mom at my apartment in machias….strout was on duty and trying to locate someone whom lived close to where i lived….he took it upon himself to just fling my door open and holler where is………will not leave persons name….but he was looking for him for drinking and breaking bail i hear…..me laying on my bed can barely move and my children and mother looked at him as if he were some type of alien…come on guys this for sure is not ok …i understand he may of been trying to do his job but geez ever heard of knocking on the door????? let me tell ya if i were feeling normal at the time he tried this crap i would of prob been in trouble myself it still bothers me he is allowed on the poolice force…and yes he does stop peopple in machias all the time with no reason and from what i have learned lies about alot of stuff so good for u chief dwelly for telling the truth and being such a nice person to the community at least they have someone down that way that is normal

You ever think, he just may have been given a wrong address to look for this guy? A possibility he may have knocked and it didn’t get heard. Not sure if its  true or not, but i have heard if a cop thinks theirs a suspect in a residence they have all the right in the world to just enter the home.
I can’t say for sure these incidents didn’t happen, the way the “victims say” but im sure there is more  to all stories.

From what ive seen of him, hes been pleasant, even when he gave me the speeding ticket. I have even seen him when he worked at Hannaford in Ellsworth and he said hey how are you doing.

Im sure there are more people  than me that have seen this side of him, but for some reason are afraid of saying it, due to the lynch mob attitude of those who speak out of him.

Ive seen an letter to the editor in the Down East Coastal one time of someone thanking him for going beyond his job by alerting them they had left their dome light on in their vehicle at night.

Have you all heard of the situation that involved him in Jonesport years ago on Halloween? IF so i bet you don’t have the whole story on that either.
