SOUTH PORTLAND, Maine — A Yarmouth man is facing a serious charge after an investigation into the reported sexual assault of a girl last summer.

Officers from South Portland, Westbrook and Yarmouth teamed up, and their investigation led to the arrest of Ronald Grant Thurston III, 23, of Yarmouth, South Portland police Lt. Frank Clark told the Bangor Daily News.

On Wednesday, Westbrook authorities developed information related to the crime, which allegedly occurred in South Portland, according to Clark.

Several interviews were conducted and a search warrant was executed at Thurston’s Yarmouth residence. He was arrested without incident Wednesday night.

Thurston was taken to the Cumberland County Jail and is facing a charge of gross sexual assault, a Class A felony, since his alleged victim is under the age of 14. Clark said additional charges are anticipated.

Thurston faces up to 40 years behind bars if convicted of the sexual assault.
