Crash sends two Knox County teens to the hospital

Updated:

WASHINGTON, Maine — Two teenagers were hospitalized Tuesday morning after a 2003 Ford Taurus driven by 18-year-old Katherine Holmes of St. George slid into a utility pole, snapping it in half. The crash, which occurred at about 8 a.m., was caused by unsafe driving speed, according to Knox County Sheriff Donna Dennison. Holmes was trapped in the car and had to be helped out by Washington firefighters. Her injuries are not life-threatening, Dennison said. The passenger, a 16-year-old boy from Washington, was not seriously injured. Police will not release his name because he is a minor. Neither teenager was wearing a seat belt, Dennison said Tuesday.
