CARIBOU, Maine — A local man who police believe is responsible for a string of home burglaries over the past six months was arrested and charged while he allegedly was in possession of numerous stolen items.

Caribou Police Chief Mike Gahagan said that Cody Rogers, 22, was apprehended Jan. 11 by Maine State Police Trooper Dan Deschaine and Caribou Officer Mark Gahagan.

Chief Gahagan said that thousands of dollars’ worth of jewelry had been stolen from area residences since July 2011. State police and Caribou police have been investigating about 15 home burglaries they believe Rogers committed.

Rogers was captured in Presque Isle and taken to the Aroostook County Jail in Houlton on burglary and other charges. Bail has been set at $25,000 cash or $50,000 double surety.

Gahagan said that area law enforcement agencies throughout Aroostook County are dealing with home burglaries.

He reminded the public to report suspicious activity to police and to beware of people stopping by their home to ask questions that do not seem reasonable or to ask to use the phone, as they may just want to see whether anyone is home to determine possible residences to burglarize.
