WALDOBORO, Maine — Republicans and Democrats have picked their candidates to face off in a special election to fill a vacant seat in the Maine Senate.

Republican Rep. Dana Dow of will run against Democrat Chris Johnson in the Feb. 14 election.

The District 20 seat was left open when David Trahan stepped down to become executive director of the Sportsman’s Alliance of Maine.

Dow is now a representative who held the District 20 Senate seat for two terms before Trahan was elected in 2008. Johnson unsuccessfully ran against Trahan in the 2010 election.
