FAIRFAX, Va. — A man suspected of slashing young women on their backsides in a series of incidents at shopping outlets in Virginia has been arrested in Peru.

Interpol tells WTOP Radio that 40-year-old Johnny Pimentel was arrested Friday in a Lima shopping mall and is being held. Peruvian police arrested him at the request of police in Fairfax County, Virginia.

Police say the process of extraditing him to the United States would take some time. An arrest warrant had been issued for Pimentel in September, but police learned in December that he was in his native Peru.

Between February and July of last year, nine women reported being slashed on their buttocks at malls and retail outlets in Fairfax County. None suffered serious injuries.
