Woman who sold fake drugs to MDEA indicted in Rockland

By Abigail Curtis, BDN Staff

ROCKLAND, Maine — A woman accused of trying to rip off the Maine Drug Enforcement Agency by selling them fake illegal drugs was among 25 people indicted this week by the Knox County grand jury.

Haley Flynn, 22, of Rockport is accused of slipping an undercover drug agent antihistamine pills instead of the $1,100 worth of oxycodone pills that he had agreed to buy from her.

The drug transaction took place on Nov. 30, according to an investigative report from the Maine Drug Enforcement Agency. The undercover officer already had made three controlled buys of oxycodone that month from Flynn and her boyfriend. She then told the officer that she had a supplier of large quantities of the illegal drug, but he would sell only quantities worth at least $1,000. The officer agreed to purchase $1,100 worth of oxycodone, and they made arrangements to meet at the Rockland McDonald’s to make the sale. The drug agency decided to send two agents to the buy.

However, once at the restaurant, Flynn said her supplier didn’t want to meet the buyers. She took the money and walked to a car parked outside, then returned to the agents’ vehicle, and eventually gave them the drugs and took them to her home. Then the agents discovered that there weren’t enough pills, and they didn’t appear to be oxycodone. After consulting with poison control over the phone, the agents learned that they were some type of antihistamine, according to the investigative report.

At Flynn’s home, the agents confronted the woman and her boyfriend about the fake pills. The couple made excuses that they had been “ripped off” and couldn’t get in touch with her supplier. Police asked the boyfriend where the money was and he said he didn’t know.

Other agents who weren’t undercover then entered the home and told the couple they were facing drug trafficking charges. Flynn confessed that she had planned to steal the money in order to pay rent, police said in the investigative report.

An officer found the missing $1,100 in a wastebasket. Flynn’s boyfriend was not indicted by the grand jury.

Flynn is charged with theft by deception and three counts of unlawful trafficking in oxycodone.
