CATHERINE ‘KAY’ P. BRILLIANT

MILLINOCKET – Catherine P. Brilliant, 93, died Thursday, Jan. 12, 2012, at a local health care facility. Kay was born Aug. 22, 1918, in Fort Kent, to Thomas and Elizabeth (Gagnon) Freeman.

Kay was a communicant of St. Martin of Tours, was a life member of Little Flower Circle of Daughters of Isabella and American Legion Auxiliary. She loved to play cards and crochet afghans. She was an excellent cook and enjoyed her camp at Smith Pond. Kay was employed by Great Northern Paper as head custodian at the Woodlands Department, retiring in the mid-70s.

Kay is survived by her two sons, Dwight and wife, Billie Jean Brilliant, and Wayne and wife, Bonnie Brilliant; three grandchildren, Shaun Brilliant and wife, Denise, Julie Pulkkinen and husband, Scott, and Peter Michaud and his fiancee, Gayle Cormier; and eight great-grandchildren, Sam, Michael, Shaun, Taylor, Olivia, Grace, Danielle, MacKenzie and Alayna. In addition to her parents, Kay was predeceased by her husband of 40 years, Rand Brilliant, in August 1981; two brothers, Gilman and Herman Freeman; and a sister, Rose Kelley. The family thanks the staff at Katahdin Health Care, especially her granddaughter, Julie, for the "extremely" exceptional care she received throughout the years.

Friends may greet the family 6-8 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 15, at Lamson Funeral Home, 11 Tamarack St., Millinocket. Funeral services will be held 10 a.m. Monday, Jan. 16, at Christ the Divine Mercy Parish at St. Martin of Tours, 19 Colby St., Millinocket, with Deacon Danny Watson officiating.
