AUBURN, Maine — A Portland man shot by police after a car chase in Lewiston has pleaded not guilty to charges stemming from that incident and an unrelated robbery.

Kyle Corey pleaded not guilty on Wednesday to felony robbery. Police said Corey pushed a 77-year-old woman to the ground and snatched her purse as she was walking into a supermarket.

The Sun Journal reports that the 43-year-old Corey also pleaded not guilty to four charges related to an hourlong car chase in November.

Authorities say after the driver fled on foot, Corey got into the driver’s seat and knocked down an officer at the scene. He was shot in the shoulder by police.

He was held on $60,000 bail.

His lawyer said he will argue for lower bail at a later date.
