PORTLAND, Maine — Readers of the Bangor Daily News in Portland can pick up each day’s paper for free at eight Portland-area Bangor Savings Bank locations.

The promotion is slated to run for 10 weeks at Bangor Savings Bank locations in Portland, South Portland, Falmouth and Scarborough.

Bangor Savings Bank was founded in 1852 and has 56 branches throughout Maine employing 700 people. The company opened its first Portland branch in 2005 and since has opened seven more in Greater Portland in an effort to provide customers with a local experience.

The free papers come as the BDN expands its presence throughout the state, with three reporters and a photographer now based in Maine’s largest city. The BDN has the largest news team in Maine, with reporters at its home office in Bangor and in Augusta, Bar Harbor, Bath, Belfast, Ellsworth, Houlton, Lincoln, Machias, Newport and Rockland.

Readers do not have to be Bangor Savings Bank customers to pick up the free papers.
