DETROIT, Maine — A local company was awarded a nearly $1 million contract from the U.S. Navy on Tuesday.

Somatex Inc. received a $983,250 federal contract from the U.S Naval Facilities Engineering Command in Norfolk, Va. Somatex will maintain, repair and inspect overhead crane and hoist-lifting equipment for the Naval Undersea Warfare Center in Newport, R.I.

“This is a good contract,” said Somatex President John Stuart. “We’ve had a good relationship [with the Newport, R.I., center]. We’ve been working at this particular facility for seven years.”
