BANGOR – Frank J. Soucy Jr., 86, passed away peacefully on the morning of Jan. 5, 2012, in the company of his children and grandchildren. Frank was born Dec. 4, 1925, one of 12 children, to Frank and Mary (Veilleux) Soucy.

Frank graduated from John Bapst High School in 1944, and soon after started what would become a Bangor institution, Frank’s Bake Shop, with his father, Frank Sr., and brother, Joseph. Frank worked at the bakery for 65 years, and gave much of his younger years to his community through working with the Bangor CYO and as a member of Knights of Columbus. Frank and his wife Mary were devoted communicants of St. John’s Catholic Church, Bangor. In his free time Frank loved to garden, cook, cheer for the Red Sox, and most of all spend time with his wife and family.

He will always be lovingly remembered by his family: his son and his wife, Frank J. Soucy III and Ellen Scheurich Soucy; by his eldest daughter and her husband, Dianne Gauvin and David Gauvin, and their sons, Troy and Gabriel; by his youngest daughter and her husband, Mary Elizabeth and James Economy, and their daughter and her husband, Natasha and Adam Eldridge; his brother, D. Donald Soucy and his wife, Connie; his sisters-in-law, Angela Soucy and Nancy Soucy; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Frank was predeceased by his loving wife of 55 years, Mary; by five of his brothers, Robert, Henry, Joseph, Johnny and Jimmie; and by his five sisters, Jeannette, Dorothy, Genevieve, Edith and Mary.

In accordance with his wishes, there will be calling hours for friends and family 3-5 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 8, at Greenlawn Funeral Directors, Bangor. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated 11 a.m. Monday, Jan. 9, at St. John’s Catholic Church, Bangor. After the funeral Mass, family and friends are encouraged to celebrate Frank’s life of hard work and achievement in the St. John’s parish hall. An internment ceremony will be held at the family lot at a later date. Donations in Frank’s honor may be sent, in memory of his name to St. Joseph Hospital, Bangor, ME 04401. Funeral arrangements have been made by Greenlawn Funeral Directors, Bangor.
