WATERVILLE | The father whose 20-month-old daughter went missing before Christmas in Waterville has some words for TV talk show host Nancy Grace. Justin DiPietro says he feels like Grace from HLN has kept attention focused on Ayla Reynolds, his missing daughter. But he says her speculation has often …

I think he is guilty but Nancy Grace is a heartless vulture.

    • J

Guilty of what – facts please?

      • Anonymous

I said “I think” that is not a fact.  After all this is the comment and opinion section of the article.  Thanks.

    • Guest

I just hope and pray that the “heartless vulture”  can browbeat him so badly, that he loses his composure and maybe SLIPS UP and accidentally gives us more clues which we can use to move FORWARD…..huge mistake, him going on her show…..

I am glad you have such faith in an actor and entertainer.  I despise that woman.  She is an educated lawyer and former prosecutor who could do a lot of good in this world and look what she has chosen… playing a harpy for bucks.  I have nothing but contempt for her kind.

  • I am curious to know if this man works or are we tax payers are supporting him.

    • Anonymous

I agree does he have a job, what is his background?  The News said the child had bruises and a soft cast on when in the custody of her father. Wonder if he has a criminal record and if so for what?   Why does this guy put attention on himself, is he hiding something and really wants to get caught?  Let’s see if he answers all of Nancy Grace’s questions, many will be listening,

    • why does that matter?

      • Anonymous

Kind of what I was wondering……..

    • Briney

Interesting.   No mention anywhere of what he does or doesn’t do.  Usually see or hear a bit about where a subject works. What about the others who were there the night Ayla disappeared?  They have kept themselves away from the press.  Other than the mother and father, and grandfather – very quiet.  Not what you’d expect from the home where a little girl disappeared.

    • Anonymous

I agree, but was wondering if mom does either!!

HLN with Nancy Grace,  is an entertainment show. I think she is very rude and crude. I have seen her rude to her callers.  She comes off as the perfect parent , if that is the case, where are her kids when she is doing this show, writting books, and dancing with the stars?  Sounds like she has a very busy life to me.

    • Anonymous

I wouldn’t want Nancy Grace in my home. she is horrid and a know it all and thinks that she is the best parent in the world when her kids are always with nannys instead of her. i understand she has to work, but when she’s not working she should be with them.

      • Anonymous

You actually buy that crap she puts in front o the public?  She is an entertainer.  Nothing more… a shock jock.  It is all a put on to suck in fools.

      • Guest

She is an educated know-it-all……Trista said some very telling things at her Grace interview….Nancy is the breadwinner in her home……Her husband is a stay-at-home parent…..and who are YOU to say “she should be……”   (anything )  ??    Are you her judge, or someone die and crown you Queen ?

    • Anonymous

Nancy Grace’s fiance was murdered, a few years back, and she’s been a bit freaked out ever since.

      • Anonymous

It was more then a “few” years ago and she fabricated many of the facts related to the case in order to bolster her image as an “advocate”.  She is a complete dirt bag who is out to make a buck at any cost…..See Elizebeth Smart, Duke Lacrosse Case, etc.

    • Briney

For Grace you’re guilty,  and who cares about a jury trial?  As a prosecutor she had a terrible record, as did her co-show host.  Watching the Casey Anthony trial was a nightmare.  It was an Inquisition.

      • Guest

That IS the DEFINITION of a trial…..it is supposed to be an INQUISITION……it ain’t a cakewalk, ya know….

        • Briney

Not so.  This is America.  We don’t do inquisitions like they did in Rome and Spain.

  • Anonymous

My attitude is what could it hurt to bring Nancy Grace to town? She hasn’t been found yet so to bring her to won and get more information about Aylas disappearance can’t hurt,  if it can contribute in even the smallest way to her being found.

  • RedSox04evr

oh boy. Big mistake just by saying “what I AM going through”. Nancy Grace will rip you to shreds. Hope you can handle the number one question: “how can you not check on 2 toddlers in the same room – not even for a diaper change, a bottle…something, for close to 13 hours.” Must have been some pot party going on. And where was the paternal grandmother? What was she doing. I dare you to do the show WITHOUT your lawyer nearby.

  • Anonymous

Would love to see it happen and I bet Nancy Grace would ask the hard questions.

    • J

She will do what ever is necessary for media coverage, even eat her own children:)

      • Anonymous

funny. I know I wouldn’t want her for a mother.  She is definitely aggressive with those that she suspects have committed a crime.  I read where she interviewed a mother whose child was missing and the woman was so upset afterwards she committed suicide.

  • Anonymous

Go on take her polygraph and then we can move forward and clear your name. Awesome about time.  It would be great for the general public to take this serious and really hunt for Ayla. Like Nancy or hate her, she is dedicated to finding children.

  • Anonymous

I know if my child was missing I wouldn’t care if anyone shredded me. I would care more about finding my baby. His priority needs to be finding Ayla not his reputation.  Passing a polygraph on national television would clear his reputation, anyways.

    • Guest

Sorry, I disagree….an unreliable lie detector test is not enough to lift him up….I hope he cracks under pressure and spills the beans…

  • kennyh

Why add to all your pain and loss by having that poor excuse for a ‘journalist’ hanging with you?
Why should he have a poly with THAT snotty, rude, obnoxious ‘reporter’? I’d do it with the the National Enquirer before I’d give that helmet haired jerk the opportunity to profit from my nightmare.

  • Anonymous

FWIW, my niece (who is now a mother of teens herself!) wore a cast on her leg at the age of six months! Why? Her 12 year old brother was holding her cradled in one arm and reached down to the floor for something. She slid out onto the floor. Doctors generally can tell if the injury matches the story. Apparently Ayla’s did, as the DR said it was due to injury.  As to who is responsible for Ayla’s disappearance, as a mother myself it hurts to even speculate. I can come up with a dozen scenarios.  Any one of which can implicate father, mother, both or neither. And Nancy Grace? I’ve seen little of her,but her style seems to verge on the hysterical female approach. Not to my taste.

  • Anonymous

    Really!!! Nancy Grace, Really????

  • Anonymous

In all respect kids fall down get bruised bump there heads and break bones when we would think they wouldn’t. Does it matter if he is on welfare or not, people with money beat their children too. I personally think whoever took the baby knows both the indiviuals and maybe its the mothers doing? Because god only knows if someone woke my child up at night or even carried one of them out and they were startled they would have made a cry if it was someone they didn’t know.

    • Guest

You have made a good point…I am wondering WHY we should (believe) that this disappearance did indeed happen at 29 Violette….and also on 12/16 ?   Why could the dogs NOT pick up a scent which lead from the house ?  It is very possible that the entire story Justin gave to the police is NOT exactly what happened, from beginning to end….including the (description) of the green pajamas….I am also suspicious of his explanation as to what was the true cause of the baby’s injured arm….I am really freaked out by this whole thing….The night BEFORE Justin took custody of Ayla Belle, the Maine Lotto (pick 3) came in as 291…..(29 Violette+1) …Ayla was an Aries, the FIRST sign of the Zodiac…..When the cops returned Justin’s vehicle to him, I sure hope (they) installed a tracking device….that is all I can say….

I think this man feels like he has no choice but to go on these news shows.  The mother has done nothing but attack him.  He chose to stay out of the spotlight for awhile until she publically harrassed him repeatedly.  I was one that put all the blame on him on the beginning, but now seeing how classless the mother is I’m not pointing fingers anymore.  Too many stories have changed from the beginning

    • Anonymous

What mother wouldn’t attack the person who ‘lost’ thier child?  Even if its misplaced anger, those first few weeks it seems you’d just be running on adernalin and lashing out at everyone.  I haven’t heard her being on the news lately.  He’s just trying to get some attention for himself.  Nancy Grace hasn’t even had this on her show in over a week.  He’s trying to stir the pot. She probably did suggest that he was involved — it isn’t all that uncommon to speculate that the parent who last had the child would have something to do with his/her disappearance.  He wants everyone to feel sorry for him…the only one I feel sorry for is Ayla.  You know the one that he said probably thought this was a game and that she’s probably adjusted to the “situation”.

      • Anonymous

This whole thing is an absolute travesty, and unfortunately a toddler is missing (or worse) due to someone’s actions. What I have a problem with is your statment “what mother wouldn’t attack the person who ‘lost’ thier (sic) child.” I believe the mother lost her child in the first place due to her actions, drug and alcohol abuse. Of course I don’t know his reasons for now going to the media, but now that he is he’s getting bashed for it? Didn’t people bash him for staying out of the spotlight as well? I am not defending this guy, I don’t know him nor do I know if he’s involved, nor do I know if the mother is, but she went to about every national show and talked all about herself, and bashed the father, and spoke very little about her missing child. Honestly I don’t trust either one. She lied about her substance abuse issues…saying it was jsut alcohol, it was more than that. I haven’t heard any mention of her other child’s father…who is currently incarcerated. I really hope they find this little girl safe, and soon, and put her with someone who will put her needs first.

        • Anonymous

When she went into rehab she left her child in the care of her mother.  She did not leave the child unattended.  This to me means that she at least cared enough to make sure that the child was cared for while she seeked out help.  I don’t think that she lost her child prior to this.  If she was a terrible mother to Ayla DHHS would have been in the picture before this.  I’m not sure about your accusation of drug abuse — haven’t seen anything in writing except about alcohol.  Not sure about his abuse of drugs either, but I’m sure it’ll come out soon.  Like “There was not party” but the neighbors reported a party happeing  at the house that night.  I don’t think he really wants anyone to dig to deep into this — Nancy Grace would have a great time with him.

          • Anonymous

CPS was involved. Do you think that she just gave the father the child? That wasn’t her choice.

          • Anonymous

He went to the police when Trista went into rehab. he wanted them to accompany him to the grandmothers to get Ayla because he was the dad.  The police called CPS to make sure he had a right to do so.  Because he is the father he had a right to take Ayla from the grandmother.  He took Ayla while Trista was in rehab.  CPS did not take the child from the mother.

    • J

He has a choice and the best choice in my opinion is to stay away from the stink of Nancy (wacko) Grace. She belongs in a mental institution!

    • Anonymous

He has attacked her mother also. Something does not add up right to his stories.  He didnt check on her for 13 hours, which by the way is odd.  He hired a lawyer, why if your not guilty.  Im done.

      • Anonymous

Sure. No reason why an innocent person would hire a lawyer with the state police and the FBI at their house and a media circus camped outside.

      • Anonymous

These hours just keep adding up. from 8 to 9 to 10, now its up to 13.

      • Anonymous

getting a lawyer is the best thing any one can do if your in trouble in Maine… and still your screwed ,because there all in bed together anyway….   Maine wants to convict people guilty or not ..with one exception “child molesters”they get 30 days…. im sure you know this saying “come to Maine on vacation leave on probation ”

A day?  This will be a week of Sundays for both of them, and the unfortunate viewers.

  • Anonymous

Not going to say anything too awful bad but….

    1. Why won’t the police arrest either parent –  either one of them had a role/know what happened and the police (hopefully) by now know that.
    2. Are the parents just hiding the childe? Maybe to get on national TV? Or if the childe is actually deceased are they just using this as a chance to be on TV?

    • Guest

You need just cause to make an arrest…..the police do not (hopefully) know SQUAT……The person who did this was very sophisticated and it was carefully planned out…..

      • Anonymous

Why would you say “the police do not (hopefully) know SQUAT?  It sounds like you do not want resolution to this case.

    • Anonymous

If you arrest too soon, you may jeapordize the entire case. They build the case until they have plenty of evidence and then they arrest.

  • I would rather spend the day having having my fingers slowly cut off than spend 1 minute with Nancy Grace.

  • waynorth1

Bombshell tonight…..don’t like the show, its host and/or comments, pick up the clicker. Now he’s getting defensive.  That can’t be a good sign.

    • Anonymous

      BOMBSHELL tonight!  LOL

  • Anonymous

Nancy Grace is a victim advocate.  Yes, she blunt and to the point.  she has no patience for “stupid”.  I am sure she lost very few cases when she was in law pratice.  I would want her on my team!  If this guy was to interviewed by Nancy Grace, she was rip him up.

    • Anonymous

She’s not an advocate, she’s a leach and just as bad as those defense attorneys she calls Nazi’s.

    • Anonymous

” I am sure she lost very few cases when she was in law pratice. I would want her on my team! ” Yes, you would! She NEVER lost a case, in all her years.

      • Anonymous

If my memory serves me right she was also a prosecutor and had a very high rate of prosecution. That is how she got her show.

    • Anonymous

I agree, she was an amazing attorney. For those that know she had a very good track record at prosecuting. Her fiance was murdered and that is what led her down this line of work. She will polygraph him by one of the lead polygraphers in the country and she would expose the truth. If he is blameless, he doesn’t have anything to loose; and he can clear his name nationwide.  Ayla being alive, getting her picture out there is a must. If I was dad, at this point the State police can’t find my baby, I would take my chances. Nancy isn’t going to tear him up, when he passes the polygraph. Thats when mom better duck and hide.

  • Anonymous

i’d have the same speculation toward him but i would like to see more speculation toward the mother. after all she was the one in who could not care for her child, she’s the one who filed full custody papers, maybe she knows where Ayla is….. it’s not an impossible consideration…

    • Anonymous

Not an impossible consideration?…I’m sure she paid someone to enter a house where 4 adults were present and take the child — to where?  Of course your hearing speculation toward the father — he was the last one to have her in his care.  As far as not caring for her child, she went to get help for an addiction so she could be a better mother.  I could see you making reference to this if DHHS had removed the child from her care, but that didn’t happen.  He’s just trying to be the media hound now for his own benifit.  If he doesn’t know what happened then he sould just be quiet — in other words he’s useless.  He should just let the police do their job and stop trying to get attention. He’s come out and said what he knows so the rest of what he has to say is pointless.  Pity me gets old after he said that he thinks Ayla has adjusted to being kidnapped.

      • Anonymous

We don’t know if the father is guilty or not, but it seems like no matter what he does is getting selectively interpreted, while the mother gets a pass. All that was said was the mother had a substance abuse issue, and that was “bashing her”, yet people have been on here arguing the father murdered and hid the kids body.

When the guy wasnt doing interviews, it was “proof he was guilty because only a guilty person wouldnt want a camera shoved in their face”. When he does interviews, it’s “just self serving, and he still doesnt care about his missing child”.

When the mother was on tv with no information that could actually help the case (just bashing on the father and making accusations), somehow that was seen as “noble” and “look how hard she’s trying to find her child”. When the father offers to do so, “he’s not going to say anything worthwhile and is useless”.

Let’s not romanticize the mother getting treatment for her substance abuse issue. At best, it’s getting back to “acceptable” after making bad choices (while the kids were in her custody). While she deserves credit for doing so, it doesnt make her a “saint”. Neither of these parents did what they SHOULD have done, and at this point, there’s nothing to rule either one out as potentially the one behind this.

        • Anonymous

Are you kidding me?  Look comments to past stories.  The mother has been bashed in everyone of them.  It wasn’t until Justin spoke out that he began to be looked at and talked about more.  No way you missed all those negative comments about the mother — look back at the first few stories then repost.

          • Anonymous

What was “bashed”? Pointing out she had substance abuse issues, no fixed address, and multiple “baby daddies” isn’t “bashing”, it’s kinda the sad reality. Pointing out that her interviews were little more than her slamming the father isn’t really “bashing” either. Not that it should be a “comparison”, but the father has caught more “judgment as a person” flak than the mother, and it’s not even proven that it’s deserved yet. The judgment on him has all been speculative/accusative rather than fact based (outside the “it happened at his house” aspect).

It’s like you’re not even supposed to notice that, even by the mothers admission, her life is out of sorts (otherwise you’re unfairly picking on a poor single mother), but it’s cool to accuse the father of intentionally hurting his own kid because she ” got in the way of his partying”. Are you really not noticing this overall bias?

          • Anonymous

it was much worse than that, they all got removed, but people bash the dad and they get renoved, some of moms bashing stayed up

      • Briney

One of the most important pieces of this jigsaw as outlined by a former FBI profile expert: To him it seemed extremely odd that a parent would leave a 20-month-old baby unattended in a crib for 11 hours.

A parent usually checks continually, and even wakes up during the night to check on a child.

Also, how could these people fail to hear anyone entering a one story house?  If that happened someone must have had a key, since no mention has been made of a door being kicked in, or a window forced to make entry.

Hard to imagine adults sitting in a room in a one story house, completely oblivious to anything except themselves.  So, what were they doing?  They couldn’t have just sat in one spot all night without having to answer to Nature?

The answer to what happened to Ayla is right in that house.

        • Guest

That would be correct ONLY if the crime did indeed happen inside THAT house….

      • Guest

We cannot prove Ayla was in that house on 12/16…..We just have a bunch of folks who are saying the same story is all….and you are a believer of that story….not impressed, sorry…

        • Anonymous

If the child was not in the house and didn’t “disappear” on the 16th, this leaves Justion really looking guilty as this is his story, not Trista’s.

    • Guest

Full custody NOT filed….it was Parental Rights only…and if I may say so, it was Justin DiPietro who COULD NOT care for the child….someone said yesterday that Trista is pregnant again…..

  • We need police, FBI, investigators looking for this child – not a talk show host.  BUT maybe she will keep them working by bringing more national attention to Ayla.

    • Anonymous

anything to keep the focus on the search for this little girl is a GOOD thing

      • Guest

        Agreed…yes..

  • Speculation has been focused on the dad — because she was in the dad’s house (full of adults) when she suddenly disappeared after mom filed for sole custody.

    • Guest

Trista filed for PARENTAL RIGHTS only….and PROVE the baby was in that house on 12/16……

      • Anonymous

If she had to file for parental rights, doesn’t that imply that she (the mother) had given up her rights at some point?  I’m no lawyer but don’t parents automatically have rights until they’re given up?

        • Anonymous

From my understanding neither parent had been given sole parental rights.  She probably didn’t think she had to go to court to do this as she had been raising the child since birth.  It was only after he took the child from the grandmother when she went into rehab that she had to partition the court to regain her rights to the child.

          • Anonymous

I’m not trying to be difficult, honest.  But I’m still not following.  I raised my children after a divorce, but their father still had parental rights.  Shared.  It was my understanding that giving up one’s parental rights was a court matter.  Physical custody, sole or shared had nothing to do with parental rights.

          • Anonymous

She filed to have him return the child to her care … not sure exactly what that terminology would be.

Nancy Grace can crucify people on her show. She has such an aggressive personality I find her very hard to watch. She stays on the air, so I guess someone is watching her show, but it isn’t my cup of tea.

      • Anonymous

I can’t stand the woman and don’t watch her show, but she is adamant that her show does not pay for interviews in any way. She recently cited this reason for not having Amanda Knox on her show:

“I’m not trying to get Amanda Knox’s first interview because… my show
does not pay for interviews in any way. I think whether she gets paid
outright or whether it’s a licensing fee for a photograph, that’s the
way a lot of networks get around paying for interviews, I absolutely
would not stand to be on a show where we pay for guests or interviews.”

This guy is bringing  attention to Waterville, Maine … he’s bringing  $$$$ into the area, the attention getter for sure, if this guy has any dirt they will find it, but why not a lie detector test? Why won’t the mother take 1? If I were in question, & innocent, I would take & do whatever they wanted me to do, as to the remark of a bottle? 20 months she shouldn’t have 1, diaper change? I would think she would b trained, but not to check on her, he was either passed out or high, another thing, the child being in a cast, well questionable, but a child when they start walking, running, they fall, they trip, they stumble, they fall down stairs, she was taken to a hospital, so… a lot of people jump to speculation of abuse, remember if & when u had a child & he or she got a bruise or a break, would u want to b accused? I said on another post, these parents come to mind  as “sketchy” , I hope this little precious girl comes home, these to have to work together as a “TEAM”, its lifelong, its a partnership in parenting!

In the 1st place, Nancy Grace has been hounding the pizz out of him. In the 2nd place, I think, I read where, he said he’d take a test just not 1 that Nancy Grace set up. 3rdly, he has kept very low key, whilst the child’s mother has been jetting around the new shows. He said the police ask him not to go on the news shows, because might hurt the case. I know that they do ask that of parents at times, so why question that it’s not true. 4th, why didn’t the mother heed the words of the police. My gut has always felt that the mom, had someone take the child, and that she was little more then a meal ticket for her.

    • Guest

Excuse me but the case is still OPEN, not solved….so, if the police asked him to (not go on the shows) so as to NOT compromise this case, then WHY is he doing so NOW ??   Is this NOT what they asked him NOT to do ?

      • Anonymous

Yes the case is still open, I never said it wasn’t. What did say, was that the police asked him not to, I also know there comes a time, when it’s a last ditch effort, they says go ahead. Being quite does not make him guilty, More often then not the guilty persons the one making the most noise. Like a female duck talking the loudest to draw attention away from
        her hidden duckings.

When he takes a lie detector test ON CAMERA on Nancy Grace and passes it is when I believe he has been telling the truth and doesn’t know what happened to Ayla.

      • Guest

Those tests are unreliable and it is why they are not admissible in court….I took one once and FAILED…..innocent as hell, too…..I would never take another, ever again…..

Second the motion. Certain medications can mess with them. They ask you before you take the test what medications you are on as well as illegal drugs, ect.

Is he trying to take this to the next level and get his own reality show? Sounds too much like doing the wrong things right now with all this turmoil.

I watched a clip of the maternal grandmother saying that Justin explained bruises on the baby, by saying that she got the bruises from older kids running into her at Chucky Cheese.  Who let’s a baby wander around where they can get hurt from older kids?  I know I was a hawk around my baby and caught my friend’s older child trying to feed him a piece of dry dog food when he thought the adults weren’t looking.

Maybe she bruised easy.  I babysat two boys last weekend who wrestled all weekend. Neither boy has bruises on them. In fact after reading this, picking them up from school today I double checked them.

“Who let’s a baby wander around where they can get hurt from older kids”?     Sadly far to many parents are not as attentive with their children when in public today.  You may have been a hawk with your children, and you are to be commended for your vigilance, not all are as concerned until something goes wrong.

OH GOOD now we are gonna make money on this whole thing by EXPLOITING her via Nancy DIS Grace…she’s ignorant.

She is a vulture. She survives off others heartache. She does nothing but makes allegations as if she has a crystal ball. If it weren’t for the abuse and/or disappearance of children, she would be unemployed! Personally, I could care less about her twins….they will probably grow up being as much of a snob and know it all as their mother

I wonder if they have the same hair doo?

  • I don’t know who is more demented, Nancy Grace or the people who watch her so she gets ratings.  Of course shows like E.T, and papers like National Enquirer still live today.  So what should I expect.

Nancy Grace is no better than Jerry Springer, and anyone that watches that type of reality T.V. deserves  what they get, half truths and lies, from both sides.

Nancy Grace…drools in her own ego…she is the ONLY perfect person on Earth…well just ask her IF she lets you.

If DiPietro doesn’t like the kind of drama that’s being focused on him, then he probably shouldn’t invite a drama queen to his home.
