Livermore highway garage water safe, state lab finds

LIVERMORE, Maine — The odor emanating from the water in the Livermore highway garage’s well remains a mystery.

Town administrative assistant Kurt Schaub says tests on the water performed at the state lab in Augusta have found no contaminants and determined that the water is safe.

Schaub and highway foreman Roger Ferland were concerned about the odor because there had been an underground fuel tank at the garage that had leaked. No fuel remnants were found in the water. Some have described it as a musty odor.

The well was drilled in the 1990s.

Schaub tells the Sun Journal the focus is now on the hot water heater tank to see if that’s where the smell is coming from. The tank could be replaced.
