Comments for: The famous faces of Maine

We all know why Maine is a great place to live, with its natural beauty, quiet lifestyle and friendly folk. Naturally, some very famous people have, over the years, been drawn to the Pine Tree State’s charms — and some very famous people have come out of the… Read More

How many of these are Mainers by transplant or Mainers by birth?

    • Anonymous

      what difference does it make?

      • Anonymous

I think it’s a reasonable question.  Move to Maine when your 30 or born and raised here.  Big difference.  I wouldn’t move to California and call myself a Californian.  I’ve lived in Maine all my life, so technically I’m a Mainer no matter where I move to.  And I hardly think owning a home in Maine that is visited once or twice a year qualifies one as being a ‘face of Maine’.

        • Guest

you know that actually was the way back in the 16-1700s your sir name hinted was where you were from.

          • Anonymous

My great, great, great grandfather was a pirate from Acadia. Does it really matter these days? Is it just another reason to hate your neighbor?

          • Anonymous

Who said anything about hating and being treated like an outsider? I think what we are getting at is the fact that there are those who become stars, can afford a house here, and now somehow have an affiliation with us. Many Mainers own property in Fla. but I hardly think they are included as Floridians. I don’t treat vacationers poorly and welcome their money into our economy. But just because you fly in and visit every so often and never had any roots here doesn’t make them a representative of Maine.

          • Anonymous

Maybe you should get out of Maine and visit other states more often. Your very small minded.

          • Anonymous

I’ve been out of Maine plenty.  I don’t know where your hostility is coming from.  I wasn’t nasty in my comments, yet you seem to be defensive about the while situation.  Are you a transplant yourself maybe?

          • Anonymous

            No, are you a lesbian?

        • Anonymous

When you move to another state do you expect to be treated like an “outsider”?  We are Americans living in the year 2012, people move where they please and if they can afford to bring dollars to Maine then I say “Great”.

    F. Lee Bailey “star lawyer”.  Give me a break.  He’s a disbarred lawyer.

    • Guest

And Martha Stewart served 5 months in the slammer,  etc, etc….what is the point ?   Let he who is without sin cast the first stone……could You make it through recess in law school ?  Just wondering…..

      • Anonymous

It’s refreshing to hear from someone who doesn’t know what he’s talking about, so I’ll try to explain the point to you:  A disbarred lawyer cannot practice law.  A lawyer who cannot practice law should not be considered a “star lawyer.”  F. Lee Bailey has been disbarred and, therefore, cannot practice law and should not be considered a “star lawyer.”

Now if that is too hard for you to grasp, I’ll distinguish Martha Stewart’s case.  Before she was convicted and served her sentence, Stewart was a business woman, an author, a television personality, and a magazine publisher.  After her conviction and service of her sentence, she’s still in business, appearing on television, and writing and publishing her books and a magazine.   Unlike Bailey, who cannot practice his profession because of his misconduct, Stewart can do what she did before.

And to answer your question, yes I could and did it make it through “recess in law school.”

I always figured they were born in RI where Hasbro use to make that toy.

      • Anonymous

45 years ago the toy only came with the parts….you had to provide your own potato.  Wiki research:
The toy was originally produced as separate plastic parts that could be stuck into a real potato or other vegetable. Government regulations forced Hasbro into including a plastic potato body within the toy set.       Wow!  I never knew that!

        • Anonymous

It was a really cool toy. My mother would rarely give up a potato and then the parts got lost.

I’m not sure why this information is newsworthy. If you live in one of the communities listed you know who the famous residents are.  If you don’t live in one of those communities you don’t need to know what famous person is living there.  One of the reasons the famous love Maine is we allow them to live normal lives  without being bothered.
