Darwin Mattila, pulp mill superintendent at Old Town Fuel and Fiber, was among the people who checked out a newly acquired chip dozer after it arrived Friday. The company purchased the big machine to manage chip piles in the fuel storage yard. Old Town Fuel and Fiber payed $560,000 for the used Caterpillar 824G, which was completely refurbished and was purchased to replace a 35-year-old machine (right). Caterpillar runs a program in which it takes in used machines such as the Caterpillar 824G, guts them and fills them with upgraded equipment to make them like new. Employees at Old Town Fuel and Fiber will train in the new rig over the next few days, and the company expects it will move chips more quickly, efficiently and reliably.
