Foreman lifts Colby men past Maine Maritime Academy

CASTINE — Ben Foreman scored 14 points Tuesday night to lead Colby College of Waterville to a 51-45 men’s basketball victory over Maine Maritime Academy.

Dan Chase netted 12 points for the 4-7 Mules, who halted a five-game losing streak. Kyle Donovan pulled down 13 rebounds for Colby.

Shawn Dostie paced Maine Maritime Academy with 17 points and 10 rebounds. Andy Ball tallied 10 points and Ben Russell added nine.

Bowdoin 88, Plymouth State 66

At Brunswick, Andrew Madlinger drained six 3-pointers on his way to a career-high 24 points, sparking the Polar Bears to victory.

Ryan O’Connell netted 21 points for 8-2 Bowdoin College, while WIll Hanley tossed in 17 points, grabbed 15 rebounds and logged four assists.

Brian Chergey led 4-6 Plymouth State with 16 points. Jesse Sabolis and Kyle Walker contributed 12 and 10 points, respectively.

Bates 74, UNE 54

At Biddeford, Reid Christian connected for 30 points and grabbed 12 rebounds to spark the Bobcats to victory.

John Squires posted 12 points for 6-4 Bates College of Lewiston, which dominated in the paint.

Alex Alsadi led the University of New England (0-9) with 13 points. Jarryd Rossignol added 10 points.

Women’s Basketball

Tufts 65, MMA 46

At Castine, Tufts University outscored Maine Maritime Academy 25-11 down the stretch to capture the fifth annual Mariner Classic.

MMA’s Casey McCloskey hit a 3-pointer to cut Tufts’ lead to 39-35 but Tufts responded with a basket from Bre Dufault and a 3-pointer from Caitlin McClure to pull away from the Mariners.

McClure paced 9-2 Tufts with 14 points.

Sam Goda scored 13 points and grabbed eight rebounds to lead 4-5 MMA and earned an all-tourney selection. Maggie Smith chipped in with seven points.
