Standish employee charged with stealing fuel

The Associated Press

STANDISH, Maine — A municipal employee in Maine is facing charges that he repeatedly filled up his personal vehicle from a town gas pump in Standish and altered the fuel logs to make it appear the fuel was going into Cumberland County Sheriff’s Department vehicles.

The sheriff’s department said Thursday that 49-year-old William Rice of Standish has been charged with theft and aggravated forgery.

Officials say the charges stem from an audit of fuel records that showed more than 200 gallons of fuel unaccounted for since August. The pump is located at the town’s public safety building.
