The Associated Press

SANFORD, Maine — Officials say a contractor escaped major injury when the floor gave way while he was operating a small loader in a former mill building in Sanford.

Assistant Fire Chief Steve Benotti said the man and the machine fell 18 feet into the basement.

Coworkers told the Portland Press Herald that the victim was up and walking with some pain after the incident Thursday morning.

Benotti said the man was taken to Goodall Hospital for evaluation.
