Maine’s McMillian, Coston chosen All-Americans

ORONO, Maine — University of Maine defensive backs Jerron McMillian and Trevor Coston have been selected to the 2011 Phil Steele All-American football teams.

McMillian was a second-team pick while Coston was a fourth-team choice.

McMillian, a senior strong safety from Hillside, N.J., was an All-Colonial Athletic Association first-team choice as well as an All-New England pick.

He was second on the team and fifth in the CAA among defensive backs with 92 tackles, including 11.5 tackles for a loss. He also broke up five passes and had an interception.

Coston, a senior from Greenlawn, N.Y., was a first-team All-CAA pick as a punt returner and second-team choice at free safety. He was tied for first in the CAA and was seventh nationally in interceptions with six, and he also ranked third in the league in pass breakups with nine.

Coston was third on the team with 83 tackles.

Maine had an outstanding season, finishing second in the CAA and advancing to the NCAA Football Championship Subdivision quarterfinals for the third time in school history.

Maine wound up 9-4.
