BANGOR, Maine — A resident on Seventh Street left the keys in his car and it was stolen early Tuesday by an unidentified person who dumped it on Fifth Street when police began a chase, Bangor police Sgt. Paul Edwards said.

The 1999 Volvo was stolen around 2:40 a.m. Officer Ryan Freeman was able to locate it, but the thief turned a corner onto Fifth Street and “pulled over quickly and took off running,” Edwards said. “They never found him.”

The gender of the car thief is not known, he said.

Police called in search dogs and “the area was extensively searched,” Edwards said. “Nobody was located.” (Nok-Noi Ricker, BDN)
