BANGOR, Maine — The Acadia Hospital has announced Anthony Ng as its new chief medical officer.

Ng, also a vice president, has served as the mental health hospital’s interim chief medical officer since September. He succeeds Allen Schaffer, who was reassigned to full-time psychiatric care duties at the hospital.

Ng, a board-certified psychiatrist, joined Acadia in February 2010 as the medical director of psychiatric emergency services. He recently has been vocal in community discussions about the prevalence of bath salts in the Bangor area.
