BANGOR – Erlene R. Hamm Shirazi, 44, died unexpectedly Dec. 7, 2011 at her home. She was born Feb. 2, 1967, in Bangor, daughter of Walter A. Hamm Sr. and Shirley I. Hamm.

The youngest of 12 children, Erlene graduated high school in 1986 in Exeter, N.H., and attended Hesser College, Manchester, N.H. Erlene was known for her huge heart. She often opened her house to people, giving them a hug when they needed it, or even a place to stay. She enjoyed reading, playing cards and board games, and she loved her kitties. She had too many family and friends to list, but she loved them all, and her giving nature will be missed by many.

Surviving are three children, Greg, Jay and Levi; three brothers, Leroy Hamm of Bucksport, Richard Hamm of North Carolina and Ira Hamm of Ellsworth; and six sisters, Mary Crocker of Milo, Geraldine Thibeault of Pittsfield, Kathryn Adkins of North Carolina, Joanne Berry of New Hampshire, Donna Levensalor of Kenduskeag and Phyllis Barnett of New Hampshire. She was predeceased by her parents; and two brothers, Walter and Willard.

A celebration of her life and a private burial will be held in the spring of 2012. Please check the public Facebook page In Memory of Erlene Hamm Shirazi 1967-2011 for information. Arrangements by Kiley & Foley Funeral Service, Bangor and Brewer.
