LIONEL J. BERUBE

VAN BUREN – Lionel J. Berube, 89, died Dec. 16, 2011, at Maine Veterans Home, Caribou. He was born April 9, 1922, in Van Buren, the son of Paul and Elise (Gagnon) Berube.

He was an Army veteran of World War II and a member of American Legion Post 49, Van Buren. Lionel was employed as custodian and sexton at St. Bruno Catholic Church, Van Buren, for many years and worked as a bus driver and custodian for SAD 24 in Van Buren for 14 years until his retirement.

He is survived by his wife, Irene (Page) Berube of Caribou; one daughter, Barbara Sambataro of New Berlin, Wis.; two sons, Rodney Berube and his wife, Claire, of Cobleskill, N.Y., and Daniel Berube and wife, Norma, of Madawaska; one sister, Annette Cyr of Presque Isle; six grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.

Relatives and friends may call 9-10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Ouellette-Thibault Funeral Home, 118 High St., Van Buren. A funeral Mass will be celebrated 11 a.m. Tuesday at St. Bruno-St. Remi Catholic Church. Spring interment will be at the parish cemetery. To leave online condolences, please visit
