Downeast Horizons hosts Christmas party for developmentally disabled

BAR HARBOR, Maine — More than 100 people participated Thursday in a Christmas party for adults and children with developmental disabilities who are served by Downeast Horizons.

Program participants, parents, guardians and staff enjoyed a buffet lunch and dessert before each person served by Downeast Horizons received a Christmas present from Santa during the event held at the MDI Shelter in Bar Harbor.

Downeast Horizons is a nonprofit organization that provides services and supportive care to about 110 individuals and their families throughout Hancock, Penobscot, Piscataquis and Waldo counties. “Everybody seems to share a sense of humor in our groups,” observed Santa, aka Ken Bustard, during Thursday’s event. The former interim executive director for Downeast Horizons and a current financial consultant with the organization, added, “And our Christmas party just keeps growing every year.”

Tony Zambrano, the current executive director, thanked all who donated to make the party possible.
