21-year-old pedestrian in stable condition after being struck in Howland

By Dawn Gagnon, BDN Staff

HOWLAND, Maine — A 21-year-old local man was airlifted to a Bangor hospital Wednesday night for treatment of head and other injuries he suffered when he was struck by an SUV on River Road.

Though she declined Wednesday night to disclose the names of the victim or the driver, Deputy Patricia McLaughlin of the Penoboscot Sheriff’s Department said both are residents of Howland.

McLaughlin said the accident happened about 6:20 p.m. and that it was dark at that time. The victim was struck by a Mitsubishi Lancer while walking with two other men in their late teens or early 20s.

The accident remains under investigation, McLaughlin said. She said a reconstruction study is being performed.
