BELFAST, Maine — Police say that a convicted embezzler struck again, this time allegedly being caught writing bad checks to the Waldo County District Attorney’s office.

Kara Gordon, 32, of Belfast, is accused of bouncing two $25 checks that she wrote to pay restitution on behalf of her boyfriend, according to interim Police Chief Walter Corey of the Belfast Police Department.

The boyfriend’s conviction was not related to Gordon’s embezzling, the chief said.

Police went to jail to find Gordon, where they served her last week with criminal summonses for those checks and two other bad checks that she allegedly bounced at a local store.

She had written the checks earlier in the fall, before beginning her jail sentence for stealing more than $36,000 from her former employer, Little River Veterinary Hospital in Northport.

Gordon was convicted in November of theft by unauthorized taking, with the thefts at the veterinary hospital taking place between September 2008 and September 2010. A judge sentenced her to two years in prison with all but six months suspended, and three years probation. She also must pay the hospital $36,238 in restitution.

While Gordon was waiting to begin serving her sentence on post-conviction bail, she also was arrested at the beginning of December on a charge of domestic violence assault.
