By Ryan McLaughlin, BDN Staff

PORTLAND, Maine — A Gorham man was arrested over the weekend after he grabbed a woman’s purse and took off with it, police said Monday.

Michael Morehead, 34, was charged with theft after he took the victim’s purse on Fore Street, Lt. Gary Rogers said.

Rogers said the woman was walking with a friend and was approached by Morehead, who attempted to take her purse.

The two struggled, and Morehead pushed the woman to the ground and fled with the purse, Rogers said. The victim subsequently called 911.

Morehead was located in the area of York and Center streets and was arrested. The victim suffered bruises to her knee, Rogers said, but didn’t require any medical treatment.
