WINTHROP, Maine — An Augusta man was behind bars Monday after police arrested him in connection with a drugstore robbery in Winthrop last week.

Winthrop Police Chief Joseph Young Sr. said officers received a tip from the public that Anthony Mabe, 18, was the man who robbed the Rite Aid on Dec. 7.

Winthrop police launched an investigation, and Augusta police aided their counterparts in arresting Mabe, but Young praised the public’s assistance.

“Anytime the public’s willing to help, that’s a big asset. That’s how we solve crimes,” he said.

Mabe had left the Rite Aid with an undisclosed amount of drugs and told store employees he had a weapon, but no weapon was shown, police said.

Mabe was taken to the Kennebec County Jail, where he remained Monday afternoon on $1,000 cash bail. printed on April 28, 2017
