LEWISTON, Maine — A local woman remained in the intensive care unit of a local hospital Sunday after being stabbed multiple times Saturday night. A 25-year-old man was arrested and charged with attempted murder.

Cleveland O’Neal Cruthirds, of Lewiston, was arrested at 2:35 a.m. Sunday and charged with attempted murder, criminal attempt and violating a condition of release. He remains in the Androscoggin County Jail on $20,000 bond.

Lewiston Police Sgt. Michael Whalen said the attack occurred at 8:45 p.m. Saturday in an apartment at 174 Blake St. The victim, whose name is not being released, was stabbed in the head and shoulder.

Whalen said Cruthirds and the victim knew each other. He said the attack appears to be an incident of domestic violence given that one of the conditions of Cruthirds’ release on a prior arrest prohibited him from having contact with the woman.
