BRUNSWICK, Maine — A head-on collision on Route 1 in Brunswick sent two women to the hospital Wednesday night, but the injuries aren’t considered life-threatening.

Barbara Angell, 59, of Bath headed eastbound towards her hometown in the westbound lane, according to Brunswick Deputy Chief Marc Hagan.

Roughly 10 yards after she got on Route 1, Angell’s 2009 Chrysler collided with a 2003 Mercury driven by Brooke Sanborn, 29, of Bristol.

Both women had to be removed from their vehicles using the Jaws of Life and were transported to Midcoast Hospital in Bath for head and back injuries, Hagan said.

“It’s under investigation as to why Ms. Angell entered the wrong [ramp],” Hagan said.

The speed limit on the section of Route 1 in which the vehicles collided is 35 MPH. Hagan said that neither speed nor alcohol were factors in the crash.

Both vehicles were totaled.
