AUGUSTA, Maine — Gov. Paul LePage has ordered U.S. and state flags lowered to half-staff Wednesday in honor of the more than 2,400 Americans killed in the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor on Dec. 7, 1941.

The date is recognized each year as National Pearl Harbor Remembrance Day.

Flags on public buildings and grounds are to be flown at half-staff from sunrise to sunset Wednesday.

Also Wednesday, the Veterans of Foreign Wars’ Department of Maine will mark the 70th anniversary of Pearl Harbor with a ceremony at noon at the Kenduskeag Stream footbridge in Bangor.
