Hampden police respond to runaway free-range chickens

HAMPDEN, Maine — Police dealt with a couple of animal problems Monday night involving some runaway chickens and a lost dog, Police Chief Joe Rogers said Tuesday.

“We had some free-range chickens … going onto other people’s property,” the police chief said.

The chickens live on Carmel Road North and their owner was given a verbal warning to keep them penned, Rogers said.

Someone also dropped off a stray dog to police, the chief said.

Newburgh’s animal control officer, who knows who owns the dog, picked up the canine Tuesday morning to return it to its rightful owner, Rogers said. (Nok-Noi Ricker, BDN)
