BANGOR, Maine — After buying drinks for himself, friends and others at Paddy Murphy’s on Monday night — running up a $112 bar tab — a Bradford man tried to leave without paying, Bangor police Sgt. Paul Edwards said.
Derek Macomber, 24, “bought drinks for a bunch of people … with no way of paying for it,” the sergeant said.
Police were called at around 1:22 a.m. Tuesday, shortly after the bar closed, and found Macomber and a Paddy Murphy’s employee at the nearby downtown parking garage, Edwards said.
A customer at the bar Monday night said Macomber was the life of the party and was handing out hugs with the drinks he “purchased.”
Macomber, who was wanted for failing to pay fines and fees associated with a theft in Cumberland County, was arrested and charged with theft of services.
He was taken to the Penobscot County Jail and remained there Tuesday afternoon, a jail official said. (Nok-Noi Ricker, BDN)
