BANGOR, Maine — A man wanted by Westbrook police for felony robbery took off running through Kmart on Hogan Road on Sunday night when local police converged on the store to arrest him, Bangor police Sgt. Paul Edwards said Monday.
Sean Latham, 25, of Westbrook was inside the store at around 5:30 p.m. and “reportedly saw one of the officers through a window and took off running through the store,” the sergeant said. “Latham ran down several aisles, startling shoppers as he made his way to an emergency exit with officers in chase.”
Alarms sounded when Latham crashed through the store’s emergency exit door and he was quickly captured by Officer Rob Angelo in the parking lot, Edwards said.
He was arrested on the outstanding warrant from southern Maine and taken to the Penobscot County Jail. Lathan’s bail was set at $50,000 cash or $100,000 surety, Edwards said.
Westbrook police officers arrived before 9 a.m. to transfer him to the Cumberland County Jail in Portland, a Penobscot County Jail official said.
Westbrook police Capt. Thomas Roth declined Monday morning to release any information about why Latham was wanted, including when the crime reportedly occurred or what led to the robbery charges.
“We’re not giving any information because it’s an ongoing investigation,” he said.
