DIANA M. (GIBERSON) KLEEFELD

WALLINGFORD, Conn., and FORT FAIRFIELD – Diana M. (Giberson) Kleefeld, 51, wife of Robert J. Kleefled, passed away unexpectedly Friday evening, Dec. 2, 2011, at a Hartford, Conn., hospital. She was born Sept. 24, 1960, in Fort Fairfield, the third daughter of D. Albert and Hazel (Wakeling) Giberson.

She was a member of Fort Fairfield United Parish Church and was a graduate of Fort Fairfield High School, class of 1978. Diana attended Northern Maine Vocational Technical Institute, Presque Isle, and graduated as salutatorian from Husson College, Bangor, in 1981, obtaining a Bachelor of Science degree in public accounting, with her being the youngest certified public accountant in Maine, making her a member of Who’s Who in American Colleges and Universities. She began her career in public accounting in 1981 at the Portland offices of Coopers and Lybrand, until beginning her long standing career with Yale University, where she served as controller until 2004 when she received her juris doctor degree from Quinnipiac University School of Law, and also was the research and symposium editor for the Quinnipiac Law Review. Diana served as law clerk for the Honorable Peter T. Zarella, associate justice of the Connecticut Supreme Court. Diana had also been an associate with the law firm of Murtha-Cullina, Hartford, Conn., in the firm’s energy practice representing merchant generators, retail electricity suppliers and end users of electricity in regulatory proceedings before the public utility commissions of Connecticut, Massachusetts and Maine, and had also been a member of the Murtha Cullina Corporate Department. For the last year and a half, Diana had been an associate of the Hartford, Conn., based Northeast Utilities in their Berlin, Conn., offices, as an attorney in their legal department. As a young adult, Diana also modeled for Voscar Studios, Caribou, appearing on several magazine covers in the U.S.

She was predeceased by her father, D. Albert Giberson, Nov. 1, 2001; and one brother-in-law, Leonard Kleefeld. She is survived by her husband, Robert J. Kleefeld of Wallingford, Conn.; mother, Hazel M. Giberson and her companion, Gray Smith, of South Thomaston and Summerfield, Fla.; one brother, Aaron M. Giberson and his wife, Stacy, of Fort Fairfield; two sisters, Lisa Nichols and her husband, David, of Levant, and Cathy Cowette of Fort Fairfield; nieces and nephews, Kerri and her husband, Steve Knox, of Lisbon, N.H., Matt Thompson and his wife, Nadia, Dan Thompson and his companion, Jen, all of Caswell, Justin Barnes of Birmingham, Ala., Sophie and Liam Giberson, both of Fort Fairfield; two great-nieces, Ashley Knox and Madelyn Thompson; and one great-nephew, Landon Knox. She also leaves behind a sister-in-law, Elaine Bucheri and her husband, Rich, of Hebron, Conn.; as well as numerous aunts, uncles, cousins and extended family members.

Friends may call 7-9 p.m. Monday, Dec. 5, at Giberson-Dorsey Funeral Home, 144 Main St., Fort Fairfield. The funeral service will be conducted 11 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 6, at United Parish Church, 4 Church St., Fort Fairfield, with the Rev. Diane Langworthy officiating. Interment will be held after the service at Green Ridge Cemetery. A time of continued fellowship with refreshments will be held after the interment service at Veterans of Foreign Wars Paul-Lockhart Post No. 6187, Presque Isle Street, Fort Fairfield. In lieu of flowers, those who wish may contribute in Diana’s memory to United Parish Church Memorial Fund, care of Betty Kent-Conant, 18 Harding Ave., Fort Fairfield ME, 04742; Fort Fairfield Public Library, 339 Main St., Fort Fairfield, ME 04742; or a charity of one’s choice. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home and church.
