Occupy Augusta participant charged for allegedly threatening resident with sledgehammer

AUGUSTA, Maine — Capitol Police have charged an Augusta man with threatening another city resident at the Occupy encampment at Capitol Park, according to a press release from the Maine Department of Public Safety.

The incident took place on Thursday afternoon and the man was issued a summons from Capitol Police at around noon Saturday around. A man known only as “Jarody,” who is 27 and has been staying at the Occupy site at Capitol Park, was charged with criminal threatening. He also lives elsewhere in Augusta. Capitol Police issued the charge after another Augusta resident said Jarody threatened him with a sledgehammer at the Occupy site. Jarody was also issued a trespass notice, prohibiting him from being in Capitol Park. Jarody’s court date in Augusta District Court is January 4.
