Testimony ends in trial of Poland man accused of sexual assault

The Associated Press

PARIS, Maine — The trial of a Poland man accused of sexually assaulting a woman prosecutors say is mentally impaired is wrapping up.

Lawyers are expected to give closing statements Wednesday in the trial of 52-year-old Jeffrey Hedrick in Oxford County Superior Court.

Testimony ended on Tuesday.

Hedrick faces 12 charges of gross sexual assault against a woman the state says is mentally impaired and unable to give consent or understand she could refuse to have sex. Prosecutors say the incidents occurred over a period of years and ended before 2010.

Hedrick has pleaded not guilty.

The Sun Journal reported that Hedrick’s attorney says the woman is not mentally impaired and she and Hedrick were consenting adults.
