By Ryan McLaughlin, BDN Staff

AUGUSTA, Maine — A former Monmouth Middle School teacher who is accused of having child pornography on his laptop made his first court appearance on Tuesday.

Christopher Brown, 55, of Monmouth pleaded not guilty to the charges, according to Kennebec County District Attorney Evert Fowle.

The charges came in the wake of 10 pictures that were allegedly found on Brown’s laptop.

Brown is currently free on $3,000 bail, and his bail conditions state he is allowed to have contact with children under the age of 16, provided their parents are present and supervising, Fowle said.

If he is convicted, Brown faces a maximum of five years in prison and a $10,000 fine.
