By Christopher Cousins, BDN Staff

ST. ALBANS, MaineAn Arundel man died late Friday night after his pickup truck went off the road in a remote section of St. Albans, according to Somerset County Deputy Joseph Jackson.

The sheriff’s office received a report of a single-vehicle accident on the Cyrs Siding Road in St. Albans just before 11 p.m. Friday. The driver of a 2001 Ford F-150, 83-year-old Roland Drew, died at the scene after his vehicle damaged a small snowmobile bridge and plunged into a creek below. The truck landed on its driver’s side and Drew was pronounced dead at the scene.

Jackson said Saturday he could not discuss possible causes of the accident because it is still under investigation. He said he expected the investigation to conclude in the next few days.

Drew was on his way to a hunting camp nearby when his truck apparently drifted too close to the edge of the bridge. According to Jackson, the accident was discovered by a friend of Drew’s who went looking for him after he did not arrive at the camp.
