GUILFORD, Maine — A fire gutted a one-story High Street home on Thanksgiving afternoon, said Guilford Fire Department Assistant Chief Willie Williams.
Williams said a neighbor called at 4:15 p.m. to report the fire.
“The fire started in the back of the house [inside] and we had it put out,” he said. “Then it reignited at 9:40 that night. We had to go back and put it all out again.”
Nobody was home at the time of the fire and there were no injuries, he said.
“It’s beyond repair. A total loss,” he said, adding that the building wasn’t insured.
Williams said the State Fire Marshal’s Office is investigating the fire to determine the cause. He said it was not suspicious.
Williams didn’t have the names of the four people living at the residence. He believes they’re staying with relatives.
Guilford, Sangerville and Dover-Foxcroft fire departments also went to the scene. Dexter Fire Department stood by for Guilford and Sangerville.
