DAMARISCOTTA, Maine — Tickets are now on sale for the Heartwood Regional Theater Company’s one-day-only production of Pinocchio.
The theater company, sponsored by the Young’uns group of Damariscotta, has been touring its original production of Pinocchio to schools along the coast of Maine though its Heartwood Goes to School initiative, according to Heartwood Executive Director Joy Braley. The company will close out the show with two public performances on Saturday, Dec. 10.
Heartwood Goes to School is an educational outreach program that has visited schools from Lincolnville to Jefferson to Bristol. The 60-minute Pinocchio production is staged by a cast of four veteran thespians who each play several characters. The actors include Elise Voight of Whitefield, Millie Santiago and Kevin Kiley of the Boothbay Harbor area and Beverly Mann of Belfast.
Based on the classic Pinocchio tale, Heartwood’s original version of the play by Griff Braley is fast-paced and heavy on wit, according to a press release. It is suitable for all ages. The presentation includes an original music score composed by Peter Bufano and performed by Cirkestra, a Boston-based organization that specializes in circus music.
This season marks Heartwood’s ninth year as a theater company and the third year of the Hartwood Goes to School program, said Braley.
“We’ve been touring this show around at schools so we thought, ‘Why not show it to the public?’” she said.
Performances of Pinocchio will be offered at 4 p.m. and 7 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 10, at the Poe Theater at Lincoln Academy in Newcastle. Reservations for tickets, which cost $5 for students and $8 for adults, are recommended by calling 563-1373 or by emailing firstname.lastname@example.org.
