UMaine women’s hockey thumps Vermont


BURLINGTON, Vt. — Danielle Ward scored a pair of power-play goals as the University of Maine women’s hockey team downed Vermont 5-2 in Hockey East play Wednesday afternoon.

Brianne Kilgour added a shorthanded goal and two assists for the Black Bears (8-5-4), Missy Denk posted the game’s first goal and had an assist and Tori Pasquariello had the fifth goal.

Melissa Gagnon also registered two assists, and Kelly McDonald, Myri Croussette and Dawn Sullivan each had one. Goalie Brittany Ott made 23 saves on 25 shots.

Krystal Baumann tallied both goals for the Catamounts (2-9-4), both on the power play. Roxanne Douville made 29 saves on 33 shots over the first two periods for Vermont, and Kelci Lanthier made six saves on seven shots in the third.
