KENNEBUNK, Maine — A police officer who fatally shot a woman who was approached him with a knife has been cleared by his department’s administrative review board.

The Journal Tribune reported that the board found Tuesday that Officer Joshua Morneau acted in self-defense when he fired four shots at 39-year-old Katherine Paulson in March.

The shooting took place after Morneau answered a report of a domestic dispute at Paulson’s home where she lived with her elderly mother and she advanced toward him in her kitchen with a 13½-inch knife.

Attorney General William Schneider previously ruled that Morneau acted in self-defense and was justified in using deadly force.
