USCAA Division I

Aaron Hutchins (University of Maine-Presque Isle sophomore), earned player of the week honors as he scored in the double digits in four games for a total of 66 points that includes a 27-point game against Newbury College. Hutchins shot 83% from the free-throw line.


Will Hanley (Bowdoin College senior), forward received player of the week honors from the Maine Men’s Basketball Coaches and Writers Association as Bowdoin beat the field at the UMass-Dartmouth/Hampton Inn Classic. Hanley shot 69 percent over the weekend as he dropped 24 points and picked up 15 boards in a 66-61 win over host Corsairs and added 19 points and nine rebounds as Bowdoin handled UMaine-Farmington.

Jordan Ferreira (University of New England freshman), earned co-rookie of the week honors as he averaged 13 points, 7.3 rebounds, and a block over a three-game span including a 15-point, 7-rebound, and 3 block performance in a 72-69 win against Colby-Sawyer.

Graham Safford (Bates College freshman), picked up shared rookie of the week honors after he picked the pocket of eight UMaine Fort Kent defender in his college debut, setting the Bates single-game record for thefts. Safford followed up his debut with 13 and 14 point performances.


Women’s basketball

NCAA Association of Division III Independents

Rashell Saucier (Univeristy of Maine-Presque Isle sophomore), has picked up player of the week honors after a solid first week of play in which she averaged 16.7 points and 9 rebounds a game and earned two double-doubles.


Women’s Swimming


Mandy Avella (Saint Joseph’s College freshman), received player of the week honors for the second time this season as she earned all three of Saint Joseph’s individual wins in a losing effort against Regis College Saturday. Avella’s 30.52 second effort in the 50-back she set a Monk’s team record.
