PORTLAND, Maine — Portland police are investigating an assault that took place outside Matthews’ Bar on Free Street on Monday night, Lt. Gary Rogers said Tuesday.

A 46-year-old male and 43-year-old female were found lying in the street when police arrived, Rogers told the Bangor Daily News.

Rogers said the male had arguing with another man and woman, and he was hit in the chin by the female, whom Rogers said had “some sort of object” in her hand. While he was on the ground, both suspects kicked the male victim.

The female victim was also allegedly assaulted by the other woman, Rogers said. Both victims were transported to Maine Medical Center for treatment.

Both suspects fled the scene before police arrived, Rogers said. The male suspect is described as white, 5 feet 10 inches tall and weighs 190 pounds, while his female accomplice is also white, stands 5 feet 7 inches tall and has dark hair.

Any witnesses are asked to contact the Portland Police Department at 874-8479.
