Ellsworth cafe, shelter to offer free Thanksgiving meal

ELLSWORTH, Maine — The Emmaus Homeless Shelter is once again partnering with Riverside Cafe to offer a free Thanksgiving dinner to those in need of a hot meal or some companionship this Thursday.

Volunteers will serve a full Thanksgiving meal from noon to 3 p.m. at Riverside Cafe, located on Main Street in downtown Ellsworth. This is the third year that the restaurant and staff at Emmaus have combined to prepare a free holiday meal. Previously, Emmaus offered a meal in the shelter but demand had grown too large for that space.

About 150 people attended last year’s Thanksgiving dinner.

Danielle Chatto with Riverside Cafe said they have enough volunteers to work Thursday. However, the organizations are still seeking donations of fully prepared desserts and side dishes. Prepared desserts and side dishes, preferably stored in disposable food containers, can be dropped off at the cafe on Wednesday until 6 p.m. or on Thursday beginning at 5 a.m.

For information, contact Danielle Chatto at 667-7220.
