PRESQUE ISLE, Maine — The Maine Potato Board is giving thanks to Sen. Susan Collins for her work in blocking an Obama administration proposal to drastically reduce the amount of potatoes that can be served in school lunches across the country.

Collins will be honored at a luncheon on Monday in Presque Isle for fighting against proposed U.S. Department of Agriculture guidelines that would have eliminated potatoes altogether from school breakfasts and drastically reduced the amount of potatoes served in lunches.

Collins grew up in potato country in northern Maine and picked potatoes as a girl.
