QUITMAN, Texas – Richard Thompson, 76, died Nov. 18, 2011, in Tyler, Texas, after a brief illness. He was born April 21, 1935, in Washburn, son of Kenneth Thompson and Margaret (Stairs) Thompson.
He graduated from Washburn High School and earned a degree in agronomy from the University of Maine. He spent the majority of his career working in agricultural chemical sales for Union Carbide/Rhone Poulenc, where he served as district manager for the Southwest District. He was an avid sportsman and especially enjoyed hunting and fishing.
He is survived by his wife, Linda Thompson; stepdaughters, Anisia Key Kinder, Lisa Jo Smalley and Teresa Key Weaver; stepson, Russell Matthews; daughter, Lisa Thompson; grandchildren, Travis and Breanna Lowary; brother, Paul Thompson; sister-in-law, JoAnn Thompson; multiple nieces and nephews. His loss will also be felt by countless friends. He was predeceased by parents, Kenneth and Margaret Thompson; sisters, Susan Thompson and Joyce Corey; brothers, Kenneth and Donald Thompson; brother-in-law, Harold Corey; infant son, David Michael Thompson; and his wife of 53 years, Loretta Thompson.
Visitation will be noon Tuesday at Beaty Funeral Home, Mineola, Texas, where a funeral service will be held 2 p.m.
